Hello! My name is Kate Romm and here is a little about myself and why I started this blog.
I grew up in Virginia Beach, VA before moving to the northern Virginia area
in 2009 to start college at George Mason University. I have a Bachelor’s of
Science in Athletic Training and became a certified athletic trainer after
passing the Board of Certification Examination in 2013. I am currently continuing
my education at George Mason in the Exercise, Fitness and Health Promotion
Master’s program. My academic and professional experience has given me the
opportunity to work with a variety of athletes at the middle school, high
school and college levels. In 2014, I became project coordinator for the
ACHIEVES Project, an innovative collaboration between George Mason University
and Prince William County Public Schools funded by the Potomac Health
Foundation. I worked with colleagues to improve concussion education and injury
surveillance within middle schools and organized two successful continuing
education conferences on emerging health issues and evidence based practices.
Currently, my graduate assistantship includes being project coordinator for
MIDDLE SCHOOL ACHIEVES and head athletic trainer at Herbert J. Saunders Middle
School in Manassas, VA.

At a young age my parents instilled in me the importance of my health and engaging in healthy eating habits and exercise. Our eating habits mostly stem from our parents and often times what we eat is out of our control when we are young. Eating a well balanced diet is especially important when a child is growing and maturing. In my own experience I have had to consult with female athletes about healthy habits more often than male athletes. I have chosen to write this blog to discuss simple changes children can make and how they can help educate their parents as well.
